This is it! The entire
Red Raider
2000 point club. Jocelyn
Chandler is the President, Vice-President and
Sergeant-at-arms of Uniontown's most exclusive "organization".
Since January 7th, 1916 - the day the very first Uniontown
basketball team played its first real game, until now - no
Uniontown basketball player has ever managed to score 2000
points in their career. None! None, except Jocelyn Chandler.
Ms. Chandler needed just 14 points when she took the floor
for a game against Connellsville on February 5th, 2004. She
scored 34! That wasn't hard for her. What may have been
difficult, however, was the 74 straight games she scored in
double figures.
She scored a total of 718 points during her freshman and
sophomore years, she joined the
Red Raider 1000 Point Club
and scored 487 points in her junior year and she scored more
than 724 points in her senior year - to give her her very own
"club". She finished with a career total of
2048 points.
You'd have to wonder what makes her so good. She could never
out jump Mel Freeman. But come to think of it, nobody could.
She probably couldn't lead a fast break and finish one the
way Don Yates had done. But come to think of it, nobody
could! What Chandler did that none of the other
Red Raider
greats did - was score 2000 points. And she did it without
the benefit of large crowds and near championship seasons!
Jocelyn Chandler just plays the game of basketball the way it
is supposed to be played. For her team, her school and her
community. For those things, she deserves her own club!
